The is a short, easy-to-read book that helpfully de-mystifies Buddhist teachings. The Secret Teachings are not secret - they are available to anyone who is ready to receive them. This book ties the teachings together and is simply, but well-written. It can be read in an evening, but I find myself wanting to read it again and again.

Allan Watts, mentioned this book on various of his talks, so I decided to give it a try.Great wisdom of middle ground Buddhism.I would recommend starting with Alan Watts literature or lectures, he has a more western approach to these difficult topics to comprehend.And when you have acquired a little more depth on the infinite, these are really good tales of how oral tradition worked on passing wisdom.

There are many misunderstandings about Tibetan Buddhism as it has become "Westernized" -- and this book by a woman who got into Tibet, then spent time with monks learning about Tibetan Buddhism first hand helps clear up many of those "mysteries." She captures the subtle nuances of the Mind and how we must "see beyond" the world of duality; "going beyond" the practice of virtue; and above all remember the parable of the raft: The raft is but an insight to show us what is in reality, "an instrument" for gaining enlightenment -- deliverance from samsara. She does this without the flavors of Modern Western Buddhism that can often veil these nuances of Buddhist practice.

An enlightening introduction to Tibetan Buddhism by a truly extraordinary human being was cited by Alan Watts in one of his lectures, and the book did not disappoint. Not light reading, but it definitely gave me thought-provoking concepts for my daily meditation. Only downside, I finished the book in about two hours. Will definitely read again and am sure I will learn more and more as I do revisit it.

A wonderful insiders view on an ancient tradition of teachings usually reserved for conversation between a teacher and a student. Very illuminating of Tibetan Buddhism, bringing it to life in a way I have never come across before. As a Buddhist practitioner some of the distinctions in this book were mind blowing. Read it.
