About the Author

Clarissa Pinkola Estes was born in Indiana in 1943 to parents of Spanish and Mexican ancestry, but was later adopted by Hungarian immigrants. She received her Ph.D. from the Union Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was certified as a Jungian analyst in 1984. She worked as a psychoanalyst in private practice and developed and taught the Writing as Liberation of the Spirit program in state and federal prisons. Estes served as executive director of the C.G. Jung Center for Education and Research and cofounded and codirected Colorado Authors for Gay and Lesbian Equal Rights. One of Estes's better-known writings, Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype (1992), is drawn from tales and myths she heard firsthand from members of such cultures as Asian, Mexican, African, and Greek. I've listed to these CDs over and over while driving in the car. I love the stories and the way Dr Pinkola Estes encourages us to reconnect with our creativity and free ourselves of the shackles imposed by the "overculture" and our internal bullies that keep telling us we're not good enough or smart enough but just dance and sing and tell our stories, whatever they are. A lot of the themes are similar to those in other books such as The Four Agreements or The Way of the Fertile Soul, but listening to these CDs is like sitting in front of a fire with an old friend and being mesmerised by the flickering of the flames and the soothing messages being conveyed.

This audio full of stories and legends is a treasure. It is uplifting to your spirit, as are all of the author's work. It reminds women we are OK, powerful and capable. All that is required Is imagination and remember the sacred in our daily lives. One can just recall one of the stories and breathe deeply. It instantly reduces tension and anxiety and we can go on with our busy lives.

Ms. Pinkola Estes is a wonderful storyteller! Up until now, I've only ready her books. This is the first time I've listened to one of her books and really loved this additional aspect to her work. Her voice and the stories she shares through various cultures, including her own family are vivid and memorable. And, through these stories, she is able to extract messages that are very relevant even in today's culture! I can't wait to listen to the other CD set I purchased.

I have followed Dr. Estes since my college days, and I enjoy everthing she produces. Her voice is very relaxing and inviting. I listen to her frequently. This item provides women with tips on how to get in touch with their inner power. And how to "see" some of the reality that was our past.

What an incredible book! I listen to it in my car and I just love it. Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes, truly is a remarkable story-teller. I'm so glad they had her read it instead of hiring an actor. She's just so inspiring, I just adore her.
