I love Rick Steves travel shows. His books are even better...great ideas of maneuvering around and best things to see and do.I also love that the book is a little smaller which makes it easier to travel with.

Rick Steves tour books are the best! I have used many different tour books for trips to Europe in past years but his are the only ones I buy now! He tells you all the details you need to know. Reading his book is like talking to a friend who knows all about the place you are visiting!

These are my "go to" guides for planning European travel vacations! I find it is less expensive and much more enjoyable to book hotels and other lodging directly through Rick's recommended choices. I book months in advance and have a dialogue with our eventual hosts who are happy to share their local tips, favorite places, seasonal festivals, etc.

This book was extremely helpful, as its contents are very accurate as my college-age daughter planned a trip to Europe with her boyfriend. It contains a great level of detail and my daughter actually took it with her, and found it to be very valuable and worthwhile for her trip. Rick's books are a great resource, and I would definitely buy them again when the need arises!!! Happy traveling, but only with Rick's books !!!

This book has a good balance between detail and comprehensiveness, and it includes a chapter on Vienna which, although not part of "Eastern Europe", is close by, and an common destination for many travelers visiting this part of the world.But, caveat emptor: There's no way to tell from the Amazon description which version of this book you are actually buying. The most recent edition (7th) was published in June, 2014, but it has the very same ISBN as the version published back in May, 2012 (also called the 7th edition). Between those two versions, however, 80 pages were added. To add to the confusion, Amazon currently (as of September 13, 2014) lists this book as having been published in June, 2012 with 1,332 pages, although the copy I just received from Amazon was published two years later and is 50 pages longer. To make things even more confusing, the current Amazon "Look Inside" display shows a 2010 version of the book!Rick Steves' publisher does a real disservice to purchasers by retaining the same ISBN through a series of significant updates. If you order directly from Rick Steves' website, you can be sure of getting the latest version, but then you won't get the discount that Amazon offers. At the very least, that website will tell you what the latest version is, and you can then decide where to buy it.

Great Book- lots of important details. Heading for Eastern Europe in October and will know better then how good it is. But seems to beexactly what I was looking for.

We had the Hungary, Poland and Prague books as well since we were there for months. The Eastern book is a good book, but not needed if you are going to specific countries, but there is not a Slovakia book for example.

I normally rely on Rick Steves for it's well organized, easy to read and comprehensive reviews of travel destinations. This was my first e-book approach, where I downloaded the current version to my recently acquired Kindle Fire HD. It was fantastic to have the electronic version and I really used it to study towns we were visiting such as Budapest, Vienna, Cesky Krumlov and Prague. You cannot beat Rick Steves for his reviews of the best sites to visit, the most affordable lodging, and the preferred places to dine and drink. I would give the book 5 stars except for two issues. Occasionally his information is out of date, such as subway pass fares or admission prices. The main glitch are the hand drawn maps he includes to show locations of his recommended hotels, restaurants, etc. The detail is impossible to read, even with reading glasses, because you can't zoom these embedded graphics like you can a google or similar online map. This should be something that he can remedy by possibly alloting a double page to the map for the e-book version, if zooming this type of offline content is not doable. Still, the Steves guides are a must for the traveler looking to maximize their time and minimize their expenses.
