Although Ahmed is a deep and thorough researcher, he answers conversationally rather than in academic language – giving the entire book a wonderful accessibility which makes it a pleasure to read.And the range of topics is astounding.Just from a cover-to-cover reading of the Qur’an, questions are asked addressing the compatibility of faith and science, interfaith relations and politics, and the inheritance rights of men and women. How should behavior change between those who we hope are friends and those who have openly betrayed our trust? When is violence appropriate, if ever? This book is a must for the understanding of Islam for anyone who is reading the translation of the Quran for the first time. It is unique in the sense that it clears the misconceptions from the source i.e. Quran directly. For any new student of Islam, it will help develop a thorough understanding of Quran regarding quite a few important yet frequently misunderstood topics.
For an interesting discussion of what a learner may ask about Islam, this book is exceptionally well done. These days, much information regarding Islam (and about any other subject) is twisted to support an agenda. Coming to a source of information without a filter is refreshing and informational. As I am not associated with any established religious sect, I enjoy learning about how others see the world and their beliefs, compare them to my own, and gain from them. While I will not be adopting Islam as my religion, I learned through Mr. Rashed's work that I share many beliefs with Islam. I especially enjoyed the support of research and science... something that I find lacking in too many Christian beliefs.Book two does repeat some of what was included in the first book I read, but this is understandable, it focuses on one individual who had an extended correspondence with the author, and some of this was included in the first book.I do recommend Ahmed Lotfy Rashed's work for those wanting to get a clear picture of Islam.

He responds to each question providing answers in clear language and refers to corresponding passages in the Koran. His answers are articulate, honest, non-confrontational, and comprehensive. What a Muslim Would Say Book 2 and Interfaith Dialogues and Debates (follow-up to Book 1) are a compilation of this email communication.Ahmed Lofty Rashed’s intent is to encourage understanding of Islam’s fundamental goal – to promote peace. The difficulty in understanding Islam is due to, in part, criminals who promote themselves as Muslim even while committing terrorism and atrocities which are in contradiction to the teachings of the Koran.
